The Interaction Between Generations and the Integration of Academic and Professional Practice Take Center Stage
The “Promising Libya” Hall hosted the Scientific Day of the Oral and Dental Medicine Program on Thursday, 14 May 2026, in conjunction with the university’s celebration of World Oral Health Day.
The event brought together university leadership, faculty members, dental professionals, students, graduates, and representatives of the dental industry, creating a dynamic platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience. The program highlighted the importance of connecting academic education with professional practice and fostering meaningful interaction between different generations within the dental profession.
University President’s Address
The Scientific Day opened with an address by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad Mubarak, who welcomed the attendees and congratulated the Medical Program team on the successful organization of this distinguished event.
In his remarks, the University President praised the efforts behind the event and emphasized the significance of organizing the scientific gathering under the theme:
“Towards Advanced Scientific Horizons in Dentistry.”
He noted that the theme conveys a clear message: advancing the medical sciences is no longer an option, but a necessity driven by the rapid developments in medical technology and the evolving approaches to treatment and modern healthcare.
Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences
Prof. Dr. Adel Al-Tawati, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, emphasized the university’s commitment to integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application.
He stated that the Scientific Day represents an opportunity to embody this vision while celebrating the passion for research, innovation, and academic excellence demonstrated by the university’s students and academic staff.
Director of the Oral and Dental Medicine Program
Dr. Rafiq Al-Kawafi, Director of the Oral and Dental Medicine Program, highlighted the significance of this year’s theme:
“Towards Advanced Scientific Horizons in Dentistry.”
He explained that the theme reflects the Program’s continuing ambition and commitment to pursuing excellence, innovation, and continuous development within the field of dentistry.
First Scientific Session
The first scientific session featured contributions from students, graduates, faculty members, and representatives of the dental industry, reflecting the event’s emphasis on connecting academic learning with professional experience.
1. Student Research Presentation
Munther Al-Aribi, a fifth-year Dentistry student, presented the research:
“Von Ebner’s Fluid for Decalcification of Osteoma: A Case Report.”
2. Graduate Research Presentation
Dr. Nizar Daraz, a graduate of the Dentistry Program, presented:
“Assessment of Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Oral Cancer Among Medical and Dental Students.”
3. Faculty Presentation
Dr. Zakaria Al-Shakmak, a faculty member of the Dentistry Program, presented:
“Professional Standards, CPD, and Clinical Safety in Dentistry.”
The presentation addressed the importance of maintaining professional standards, continuing professional development (CPD), and ensuring clinical safety as fundamental components of contemporary dental practice.
Industry Participation
The session also featured the participation of Dr. Zakaria Al-Shaari, Sales Director of ASLAM Company for the Importation of Medical and Dental Supplies.
Dr. Al-Shaari expressed the company’s pleasure at participating in the Scientific Day for the second consecutive year. He highlighted ASLAM’s commitment to following global developments and advancements in dentistry and to providing the latest dental equipment and technologies.
